Like the other reviews have stated, this place is a great dive bar- nothing more, nothing less. A great place to stop in, have some cheap beers, throw down a couple of shots, play some darts, listen to the jukebox, and watch some ball games. The bartenders are generally cool, attentive, and pretty much know everybody here by their first name, as the majority of folks I noticed drinking here were locals who frequent the same couple of bars in the downtown area. Everybody here is here to have some drinks, relax, and have a good time- a great place to meet some new friends and enjoy an afternoon or evening. Plus side- plenty of seats, big bar, great service, cheap drinks, jukebox and darts! Down side- can be VERY smoky Overall- had a great time at Mastry's! Grab some friends, stop in, and enjoy yourself, just don't stay all night!

This is starting to become one of my favorite bars downtown. My bf and I were new to town so the night we decided to go downtown for the first time we were't really sure. We started off with dinner then obviously used Yelp to find a bar nearby. We both are more laid back people and don't do the big clubs or busy bar scene too often. We read that this was one of the best dive bars so right then and there we knew we had to stop in. This place is definitely a must if you're in dt St. Pete. I will say it's the best dive bar I've every been to. You have your nice mix of crowd throughout the night, cheap drinks, and the service is always great!

This bar is truly a Saint Pete gem. Located directly on central, on the Jannus Live block, it is the cheapest place for a drink. $2 Bud Select drafts always, and dirt cheap liquor drinks ($4 Jamason, etc.). There used to be smoking allowed, however that was banned about a year ago. There is literally no remanence of the smoke smell, which I love. The are cash and card here. This place is a great upper class dive bar, and really lives up to its name. Ideal location.

Visited 8/7/2015 It has been close to 20 years since I have been to Mastry's but we decided to meet up with a good friend we had not seen in many years. Since it was First Friday, we all decided to meet up at Mastry's. They have been here for many many years and is popular with the locals. It looks exactly as I remember it on the inside. If you find yourself in downtown St Petersburg, check out Mastry's.

Pretty sure you could mention a whole lot of dive bars in the best dive bars ever. You can look at Mac's club deuce in Miami Beach as a benchmark but Mastry's should be involved in any debate. Not too proud to admit I love cheap beers and dive bar wonder...and Mastry's met all expectations. this place is AWESOME! Look beyond the ecclectic collection of St. Pete's best and you see a barkeep that hustles a well as anyone in the biz (and looks like an aged "Greatest American Hero") just to see an owner that resembles Jeff Duhnam's "Walter".. Surly but friendly that gives you a sense of ...at home. Fishing stories. Beer stories. Old man drunks, Perty girls finding their oates while the lo-cal keeps up a $2 can of Rolling rock mantra. If in St. Pete, make your way to this fabulous reminder of how great a dive bar can be!!!

Stopped in to Mastrys last night after reading some good reviews a d wanting to check out the oldest bar in St Pete. This place is really cool. Tgis place is labeled a dive bar, and it is. However a really awesome dive bar! How they have is decorated is really interesting. The service was great and the prices were spot on. They had a couple 2 dollar specials which is super cheap for downtown. The atmosphere was great as well. There was a live band playing while we were there that was really getting the crowd involved. I know this place has been around for a long time and I can see why. They do everything right and treat there customers fantastic. I will definitely be back very very soon!

My favorite dive bar in St Pete. They were actually one of Maxim's top dive bars a few years ago and for good reason. The place is tiny, the bat tents are awesome and the drinks are strong. They have a full bar,a back patio, and a darts machine. I have a blast every time I come here!

Great dive bar. There was no smoking inside when I was there this time, but they still sell cigarettes which was odd to me. Great place to stop in and grab a drink before or after a show at Jannus.

Until August 1st this year you could smoke here. That was the only thing the place had going for itself -- it's a pigsty. The anti-smokers have 99.9% of the places to themselves, it would've been nice if they'd have let us smokers have just this one. I won't go back.

Classic Dive Bar! I hit this place up when I was in town for a Rays/Yankees game. Good Prices..Good Pours! You couldn't smoke in here (they said they changed their policy recently), but sitting outside while you're smoking w/ your drink was no big deal to me. I was here around 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon for a couple hours and there was maybe 6 or 7 other people here, they all seemed to be locals and were friendly drunks. They sell smokes behind the bar for $7 a pack, any pack, which was a huge plus cause I didn't notice any gas stations within walking distance from my hotel room, The Pier Hotel, I was staying at around the block off 2nd Ave. I'll be going back to Mastry's when I go to St Pete for another ball game in the future.

Oldest bar in St Pete. Great dive bar. Fun place to go with friends. The jukebox is always banging, the beers are always flowing & the darts are always burning! Awesome bartenders. Quick service. Cheap drinks. Can get very smokey. Offers bar, tables, and booth seating.

Love this place. It is a straight up bar. Period. You go in, you sit down, you meet friends and you drink. The bar staff is friendly, drinks are made well and the prices are right. Always a good time to be had here.

Classic smoky dive bar. Been here forever it seems. A nice alternative from the lounges & gastro pubs dominating DTSP currently.

Fear and Loathing at Mastry's Bring your problems, bring your friends, bring your liver, bring your pocket change. The drinks are stiff and the drunkards are loose. This place is good times

I loved this place. There were two cute American Bulldogs sleeping inside. It is very dark and comforting inside while the sun blisters skin outside. The bartender was nice enough. The juke was not good. It was one of the electronic ones with absolute trash on it. I ordered some Townes Van Zandt on it, so future patrons, be sure to thank me later on that. I enjoyed my early day drinking here. I felt so bad for the poor green parrot in the entrance. He seemed like he was drunk or about to die.

Great dive bar. A grungy "Cheers" type place where everyone knows everyone and the bartenders are nice and attentive. It's a great spot to grab a cheap beer and maybe make a couple new friends... at least I did!

Classic dive bar. Classic in these sense that it is cheap, smokey, and been there forever. Great place to start and finish a night of Central Avenue drinking. Out back, is an alley al fresco area- great place to listen to Jannus Landing concerts or to watch vagrants urinate. Bliss.

A childhood friend of mine discovered this place when moving to St. Pete 12 years ago. Upon a recent visit we agreed it's the closest approximation of our hometown dive bar. The drinks are cheap -- our bill was $20 for two beers and 3 or 4 mixed drinks! For a divey bar the bathrooms and bar itself is pretty darn clean. The jutebox has plenty to please. One star off for the bartender with a serious attitude. But according to my pal the rest of the staff is top notch.

One of the best dive bars in the da 'Burg... Cheap and stiff drinks... Can get very smoky in the later hours...

Sub-par dive bar ... is that possible? There are better places for cheap beer in St. Pete.
